April 2025 Newsletter
Greetings Members and Friends,
A lot has been happening at Highlands Community Club. Besides the floods that almost shut down the building, we are surviving and thriving now that the sun is about to shine again.
We often discuss what we would like to do to improve our building. One of the most important things was to secure the premises. With that, we were able to replace all the locks on the outside doors, a task that had been on our list for some time. This was an expense we had planned for, and the Board was thrilled that, with your help and support, we were able to check this off our list. As always, our goal is to keep the Highlands Community Club open and active for years to come. We need your support to do that.
I want to take this opportunity to welcome Vanessa Mora, our newest board member. Vanessa is a native of Redwood City and serves on our board as our Secretary. Vanessa comes to us with a lot of enthusiasm. Pat Nugent, our previous secretary, has assumed the position of Event Coordinator. All of the board positions are important, but having an event coordinator keeps us on track to host consistent events.
The position of Treasurer remains open and available for interested candidates. Gary Johnston has been generous enough to continue unofficially helping us in this position. We are grateful to Gary, but we need to fill this position as soon as possible. If you have any experience at all and are interested in our club, please reach out to one of us for more information. Gary has set everything up for easy access and input. He is more than willing to train someone in this critical position.
Now that the business part of the newsletter is complete...
We have had two very successful game nights, Bingo in February and Bunco in March. Members, friends, and family showed up to play games and win prizes. Our goal this year is to continue entertaining you in various ways, whether you are an adult or a child. That being said, we have a slate of exciting events planned for the coming months.
April kicks off with the return of our Spring Egg-Stravaganza, perfect for young and old alike, on Sunday, April 13th. Doors open at 1:00 pm. This gives the Easter bunny time to prepare for Easter Bunny Photos at 1:30. The day continues with crafts and activities, and the return of our Easter egg hunt at 2:30 – bring your baskets. Food and refreshments are included in this great afternoon.
The month continues with Bingo on Friday, April 18th. This has been a very successful event. Secure your place by reservation or arrive at the door. Walk-ins are always welcome, but it's easier for us to plan if you have a reservation. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; bingo begins at 7:00 p.m. Our goal for the evening is to award cash prizes.
The month of May is always special, as we celebrate Mother’s Day with High Tea on Sunday, May 4, 2025. Doors open at noon. This is by reservation only. Experience savory treats and teas. Let the rest of the world go as you enter our Highlands Community Club tea room for the afternoon.
All of our events have member and non-member prices. Consider becoming a member. We will gladly send you information. Or contact Sheri Galvin at 650-208-9002 or sheri.galvin@hotmail.com, our Membership Chair. Sheri will be happy to help you.
See our flyers under the Events tab.
Hope to see you at these events!
